New Storm through outlets


A big divide in our country right now is what we should do at the border between the US and Mexico. So I chose to choose one news station that is very left sided and one that is very right sighted. Both these articles use different language to describe their point of view of the argument. New York times believes it unethical for us to make a wall between this border and is not American value like. Washington Free Beacon use different vocabulary to choose why we have to protect our self from the other side.
One big show of the difference is how New York times uses immigrants while Washington uses illegal immigrants or criminals to describe them. This choice of words makes them seem as if they are all evil and not seeking refugee. US was built off immigrants and now the government believes its okay to not allow them to come seek refugee. Also, New York times tries to talk about price of the wall and how we have other problems.

I like how you used two opposing news sites to view how they see immigrants and how they label them. I read the two articles and I love how you summarized it as a whole. One question I have is, how would these articles affect the immigrants if they read them themselves?"

When i think about advertisement that tries and persuade me to pick there item over competitors is places like Samsung. Apple has taken over as the big phone market so Samsung is playing catchup. Every commercial for a new product they try and roast on apple for a certain feature or show that theirs is better. Apple is engrained as the main smartphone and might always be on top. These companies always have to show commercials show why they are better while apple just shows what they have. Other companies that do this same thing is phone services like version, t-mobile, and sprint most people have ATAT and is sort of the king of phone service. While these other service try and bring down the bigger companies to make theres make sense. These smaller ones have to make the most ads just so that they can catch up to the bigger guys. In Critical thinking we have been learning about many common advertising techniques and how ad companies try and get your attention. We learned over 18 different techniques that ad companies use like weasel words, patriotism, and plain folks appeal. All these techniques are used to grab your attention and persuade you to think about their item and or to buy their item. One ad that grabbed my attention this week was the Geico commercial where the gecko imagines what he would do if he had the power of the infinity gauntlet. What he would do is make it so each person could save as much money as possible on insurance. With Avengers Endgame being the big hit of the month this advertisement intrigues many people while also tell you what the company is all about.
