My Relationship With Media

When I first read the prompt of "relationship with media" I had no idea what to write about. But after going more into depth I realized that media does not just have to be online but everywhere around me. But the things that most influence me as a teenager I believe it is TV Shows that I watch and the use of my phone everyday.
As a teenager I watch most of the popular TV shows on Netflix, like everyone else or just big popular show. Shows like The Office, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones are the big ones I watch. I think these shows are a big part of me because they make it so I can always have something to talk to someone about because most people have also seen it. The main characters in these show like Micheal, Jon Snow, or Rick Grimes these character influence how I think about certain events or how I act. I always like these character because I like how they are strong and influential leaders and they make feel as if I could one day bring joy to others and inspire others. I think I watch these shows for entertainment but really I watch them to connect with others in my class and to feel accepted by others. I think my relationship with media is good I don't think I overuse it but use it enough that I am entertained and inspired.
Also, as a teenager of the 21st century my big connection to media is my phone. Through social media apps like snapchat, instagram, and twitter. I don't believe I am fully controlled by my phone but I do think it would be a challenge to drop this item of my life. I have started to rely on it more through contacting others too just watching new shows that have come out. I think media is a big part of my life everyday and an aspect of my life that I rely on.

When i think about advertisement that tries and persuade me to pick there item over competitors is places like Samsung. Apple has taken over as the big phone market so Samsung is playing catchup. Every commercial for a new product they try and roast on apple for a certain feature or show that theirs is better. Apple is engrained as the main smartphone and might always be on top. These companies always have to show commercials show why they are better while apple just shows what they have. Other companies that do this same thing is phone services like version, t-mobile, and sprint most people have ATAT and is sort of the king of phone service. While these other service try and bring down the bigger companies to make theres make sense. These smaller ones have to make the most ads just so that they can catch up to the bigger guys. In Critical thinking we have been learning about many common advertising techniques and how ad companies try and get your attention. We learned over 18 different techniques that ad companies use like weasel words, patriotism, and plain folks appeal. All these techniques are used to grab your attention and persuade you to think about their item and or to buy their item. One ad that grabbed my attention this week was the Geico commercial where the gecko imagines what he would do if he had the power of the infinity gauntlet. What he would do is make it so each person could save as much money as possible on insurance. With Avengers Endgame being the big hit of the month this advertisement intrigues many people while also tell you what the company is all about.
