Politics In English Language

In Critical thinking we have started to talk about how politician use english language to influence reader. They do this through changing words to better sounding synonyms to using words that the normal public wouldn't know to confuse you. They also do it through slogans that make you remember that company for that certain something.
We have seen examples of this in the last election as long throughout political history. An example of this in the past is how republicans don't use the phrase global warming but climate change because make it seem it as normal and not as bad. The use of this synonym cause for people to see as it will change back and that it effects only certain places.
In this last election Trump used the english language to get voters to his side in many ways. He did it through calling all immigrants criminals and rapist this way would get most white voters on his side. By making this statement categorizing all immigrants and make them seem evil. He also did this by changing words so that the less educated were not fully informed by his speeches. The English language in politics is used to change how it sounds to make sound better without actually changing the value.

Persuaders

When i think about advertisement that tries and persuade me to pick there item over competitors is places like Samsung. Apple has taken over as the big phone market so Samsung is playing catchup. Every commercial for a new product they try and roast on apple for a certain feature or show that theirs is better. Apple is engrained as the main smartphone and might always be on top. These companies always have to show commercials show why they are better while apple just shows what they have. Other companies that do this same thing is phone services like version, t-mobile, and sprint most people have ATAT and is sort of the king of phone service. While these other service try and bring down the bigger companies to make theres make sense. These smaller ones have to make the most ads just so that they can catch up to the bigger guys. In Critical thinking we have been learning about many common advertising techniques and how ad companies try and get your attention. We learned over 18 different techniques that ad companies use like weasel words, patriotism, and plain folks appeal. All these techniques are used to grab your attention and persuade you to think about their item and or to buy their item. One ad that grabbed my attention this week was the Geico commercial where the gecko imagines what he would do if he had the power of the infinity gauntlet. What he would do is make it so each person could save as much money as possible on insurance. With Avengers Endgame being the big hit of the month this advertisement intrigues many people while also tell you what the company is all about.
