The Merchants of Cool

On Friday in Critical Thinking we watched a documentary called The Merchants of Cool a film about how industries make money off teenagers in 2001 and how the techniques are still in use today. These companies used focus groups of kids to see how product logos determine if the item is cool. One item they showed that use this tactic very well is Sprite. There whole advertisement is drink sprite because we are cool. They used professional basketball player Grant Hill to show that even he will only drink sprite because its the best drink. They also made a whole party where they hired hip people to show that their product is cool. Another company thats is doing this now is Hulu with there commercials on how they have life sports. In this commercial is Professional basketball player Damian Lillard and Giannis Antekumpo are say they would never sell out but they have stacks of money in there hands. It makes people laugh while also just making people realize there company is cool and the best use it. I think this documentary was great and can't wait to finish it and see what other companies use this tactic.
